Re: FAO Pugilists
TarquinForeverFrancisThere's never been a fatality in the UFC despite it being seen as brutal. There have been a number in MMA,i think it's 20 over the years .They've all been linked/caused by massive weight cuts and dehydration. Some have happened pre fight when fighters have collasped and gone into renal failure. The UFC commissioned a study into the deaths and changed their weigh in procedures to help the fighters rehydrate and refuel before fights. These are now starting to be followed by boxing , definitely being followed on the Turkey Saudi cards.
Tbf downed fighters are often punched but fights are generally stopped quickly .It is the referees decision to decide whether the downed fighter is still able to actively defend himself.
I meant UFC not MMA.
But in summary when they are the deck they are getting their faces caved in. I can't see how that can be considered less brutal than boxing.
UFC is MMA it's just the premier organisation in MMA .Sort of the Champions League of the sport , it's why i mentioned MMA.
The UFC fight under 'The Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts ' as do most MMA organisations .
Getting back to your point however. It can seem brutal but there has never been a fatality in the UFC since it started in 1993 .There have been 30 in professional boxing in that time period.
