The direction of the club (35 replies)
Club feels completely transformed at the minute – Knighthead coming in, money being spent, Brady front and centre, the Amazon doc, new stadium… all of it’s making Blues look the most ambitious we’ve been in years. On the surface, it’s class and the future does look bright.
But I’ll be honest, something about it unsettles me. Blues being a bit crap was always part of the deal, and weirdly, I was fine with that. The lows were constant but it made the odd high absolutely electric. What I’ve always loved most is the ritual – turning up at St. Andrew’s, the atmosphere, the grit that felt unique to us.
As long as the players gave a shift (Rowett’s first spell being a good example), that was enough for me.
Now I can’t help but think we’re heading for a wave of plastics, shiny stadium, glossed‑over identity. The grit, the madness, the soap opera of Blues was half the fun. In a paradoxical way, that chaos was part of who we were.
I reckon a lot of fans feel this deep down but won’t admit it.
