TSP’s 2023 Gala Honoring Tony Hawk & Celebrating 20 Years!
Legendary figures in the action sports and entertainment worlds recently came together at the Chateau Marmont to celebrate 20 years of The Skatepark Project and to honor founder and skateboarding icon Tony Hawk. During the gala, guests were treated to a lively program hosted by actor Jack Black, which included an award presented to Hawk by his original Bones Brigade teammate Rodney Mullen, an Emerging Leader award presented to actor and pro skater Evan Mock, and musical performances by Orville Peck, The Downhill Jam, and Ako!
The evening marked TSP’s first-ever gala to celebrate 20 years of serving communities in need with free, accessible outdoor recreation opportunities.
“If you go to a skatepark while it’s open, it’s always crowded. There are always people skating. This experience resonates,” Hawk shared as he accepted the honor. “And when you go to a skatepark there’s a sense of community, the diversity and inclusion, people of all ages, from all backgrounds and all races are all encouraging each other. When that one kid who wants to drop in finally does it, everyone rallies around them and is joyful and united in that process. Skateboarding is singularly unique in that sense.”
While friends, family, and supporters of The Skatepark Project showed up to celebrate the incredible impact we’ve had over the past 20 years, it was also a chance to look to the future of our work and our commitment to bringing access to safe public skateparks to underserved communities around the country!
