Peru orders new review of Southern Copper's stalled Tia Maria project, cancels okay

Peru's government has revoked its authorization for Southern Copper's Tia Maria copper project and sent it back to authorities for review, the mining ministry said on Friday, creating a new obstacle for the long-stalled project. Tia Maria, one of the biggest mines under development in Peru, the world's third-largest copper producer, has a target start date of late 2027 following more than a decade of opposition from local farmers and residents who fear pollution and water contamination.
