Next Up: Exeter City vs Peterborough United

City stumbled out of the blocks at Northampton to continue their inconsistent start to the season, and after two away games in a week it’s back to the Park on Saturday to take on the side that currently finds itself bottom of the table. With Sil Swinkels having missed the Northampton match with the knock picked up at Wycombe, Jack McMillan dropped into defence, but should Swinkels still be missing Gary Caldwell has options that aren’t necessarily square pegs in round holes as Luca Woodhouse was in action in the U21 Cup on Tuesday night and could be set to come in. Caldwell will otherwise look to try to find the winning formula elsewhere, hoping that Reece Cole has recovered fully from the illness and tight calf that saw him miss out recently.

Following quite a traumatic summer that saw a number of key players leave, Peterborough have followed last season’s underachievement with a dreadful start that looked set to continue until a last minute equaliser against Bradford on Saturday. Darren Ferguson has been tasked with rebuilding the Posh squad yet again, with a smattering of new signings including Kyrell “Son of Kevin” Lisbie from Braintree. Another signing was Klaidi Lolos, who was once ditched by Torquay with a scathing review from then manager Gary Johnson about his ability – but who has resurrected his career firstly with Crawley then with Bolton. While Joel Randall and Jack Sparkes have departed for pastures new, there remains City interest in Archie Collins, who has been a mainstay in the Peterborough midfield since moving from City.

Peterborough will take heart from their results against City last season – the corresponding fixture saw City go ahead early through Cole only to be pegged back immediately by Mothersille, before Fernandez’ goal on the stroke of half time clinched a 2-1 win. The return at London Road saw Posh pegged back at the death by Millenic Alli having led for much of the match through Kyprianou. Peterborough maintain an overall league head to head lead with 17 wins to City’s 13, but this is usually one for the Pools coupon as 20 matches have finished level.

The match officials for the game will be:-

Referee: Matt Corlett
Assistant Referees: Declan O’Shea and Dean Treleaven
Fourth Official : Aji Ajibola

Matt Corlett last took charge of an Exeter game in November 2024 when City beat Charlton 1-0 at St James Park. Last season he refereed 25 games, showing 121 yellow cards and sending off 3 players.
