Spotlight on our 2024 Art Auction Artist:
Lee Ferris!

This year, BICAS was excited to return to our roots by holding a contest for a design for our Art Auction commemorative t-shirt and the poster! All proceeds go towards our decades-long mission is to promote accessibility of bicycle transportation and the arts.

We’re are so excited to thank the winner of our 2024 Annual Art Auction T-Shirt and Poster Contest, Lee Ferris! You can see the poster on our shop door, and get your hands on one of these t-shirts come Art Auction!

Find him at the TUC International Airport Art Exhibit, July ‘24 – January ‘25!

Where are you from?

Los Angeles

What got you started making art?

I have been a professional musician for my whole adult life and I began making sketches of the cities my band and I toured through as a way of documenting my travels.

What’s your artistic background? (experience, education, etc.)

I went to Berklee College of Music and studied guitar. I have been a professional freelance visual artist/graphic designer for the past 6 years.

Who or what are your biggest artist’s influences?

I love Peter Max and Milton Glaser for their psychedelic interpretations of colors and shapes in their illustrations. My favorite painters are -to name a few-John Singer Sargent, Timothy Horn, Edgar Payne, Jennifer McChristian and Amy Scherer.

Where do you get your inspiration for your art?

For my painting, my biggest inspiration is light and how it creates mood and drama on any subject. Here in the Sonoran Desert we get such incredible light and it can make even the most ordinary objects become illuminated with magic. For my design and illustration I get a lot of inspiration from old magazine advertisements and old movies. I love the look of 60s and 70s handmade poster and t shirt designs.

Why did you decide to enter this contest?

I have always loved riding bikes in all of the cities I have lived in. There was a place like BICAS in LA that I used to go to and I felt like making something that would help attract people to a very cool organization that does great things for Tucson.

Don’t forget to explore his portfolio website, follow him on instagram, and check out his work at the TUC International Airport Art Exhibit, from July 2024 to January 2025!
