Aston Villa player ratings as fans name a clear Man of the Match after Europa League win over Maccabi Tel Aviv
The latest fan-voted Aston Villa player ratings are in after Thursday’s Europa League victory against Maccabi Tel Aviv at Villa Park.
Villa supporters submitted their player ratings via our AVF ratings form, which we’ll be inviting you to do via our social media throughout the 2025/26 season.
The process is simple. We’ll share a link at full time to ask fans to give every Villa player a score out of 10 – without a zero because we’re grown-ups and so are you – before adding in my own ratings from Aston Villa Review and taking an average.
These average scores will be used for Power Rankings each month and, ultimately, to crown a Player of the Season.
Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv player ratings
Emiliano Martínez – 7.7 – MOTM
Sure, there was another iffy pass to a defender but there was also some tremendous goalkeeping and a quite glorious trick to get out of dodge under pressure. Much more like it.
Ezri Konsa – 6.7
Honestly, some games are just too easy for Konsa at this point. He’s not perfect by any means but when you have a defender of this ability who’s not prone to lapses in concentration, poor opposition can’t test him.
Victor Lindelöf – 6.7
I thought Lindelöf did a really good job at right-back both with the ball and defensively with Villa out of possession. A very solid addition for European games where changes are needed.
Pau Torres – 6.0
Not unlike Konsa, Villa’s other centre-back was largely untroubled. I would have like to have seen a bit more urgency with the ball but that’s fussy after a win and a clean sheet.
Ian Maatsen – 7.0
Mostly fine defensively and most adequate going forward, Maatsen’s rating was boosted by a stunning finish to put Villa in the lead. He became a crucial component as Villa focused their attacks through their left-sided partnership.
Amadou Onana – 6.5
I gave the senior member of Villa’s midfield pairing a slightly higher rating than 6.5 after a professional performance in the middle of the park.
Lamare Bogarde – 7.0
Commentator Adam Summerton raved about Bogarde during the game and rightly so. This was another impressive all-round performance from a player who was used in more than one position again.
Evann Guessand – 4.3
Guessand’s contribution, on the other hand, continues to deteriorate. In matches where Villa’s biggest challenge is cracking a nut, his willing attitude and defensive effort aren’t enough.
Jadon Sancho – 6.2
The second part of the combination on the left wing that finally opened up the visitors and put Villa into a lead they were never likely to give up. Otherwise, more of the same from a player who promises much and needs to add output.
Morgan Rogers – 7.4
The secret sauce in the Maatsen and Sancho combo platter? Rogers drifting left to link the play with the former Borussia Dortmund teammates and, often, Onana. It was the one Villa trick for which the opposition didn’t have the answer.
Donyell Malen – 6.9
Quite frankly, scoring a penalty should have been a 10/10 in hindsight. Phew!
Substitutes
Boubacar Kamara – 6.1
See Ezri Konsa.
Ollie Watkins – 5.6
Villa’s centre-forward had a chance to get away from his marker and get himself a goal but the touch and confidence just weren’t quite there.
Emi Buendía – 5.7
Little Emi is back in action having missed a single game after going off injured against Manchester City. He didn’t really get a chance to show what he can do but it’s great to have him back.
Youri Tielemans – 6.8
Tielemans returned from injury and immediately sliced the defence open with a pass. A cracking cameo from the Belgium skipper. Welcome back.
John McGinn – 5.5
Villa’s captain came on as a substitute to make his 300th appearance for Villa, hustled and bustled and was generally John McGinn for a bit. Legend.
