Aston Villa winners and losers from FPL Gameweek 2: Villa players drop a stinker
Aston Villa have started the Premier League season in awful form and their FPL contributions are no different.
Following the tame opening day draw against Newcastle United with an even worse performance and subsequent defeat against a Brentford team that looks destined for a relegation battle was not the response manager Unai Emery was looking for, and Fantasy Premier League players relying on Villa players to score points for them have been caught out again.
I know that from experience. More fool me.
How Aston Villa players fared in GW2
Villa used 15 players on Saturday and produced a massive FPL points span that ranged from 0 to 2. It’s not worth delving any deeper than that, so I won’t.
Suffice to say, if there were any doubts about FPL’s updated points system and its ability to replicate the actual performance of the players, Villa’s dog of a display against Brentford should ease them fairly substantially.
A rubbish performance yielded a rubbish points haul in FPL – just the way it should be.
If you’re considering bringing in Villa players, take it from me as someone who has now made the mistake of starting three of them in two consecutive gameweeks in a row: don’t.
Villa have started badly in terms of results and performances, and they’ve done it in a specific way that makes the players bad buys in the FPL realm. They’re having loads of the ball, making minimal defensive contributions and creating nothing.
Look elsewhere. Seriously.

AVF FPL update GW2
Our GW2 congratulations belong to Gary James, who collected a league-topping total of 83 points and has taken a huge lead over Rich Ludlow and Wayne Barnard, who moved up to third.
Gary banked a whopping 30 points from captain João Pedro, perhaps surprisingly the only player in the team to earn bonus points this weekend.
For context, Gary is the top Villa fan in FPL, is 12th in England and 61st in the world. Unreal.
Alexander Mortimer is still in last place and it’s Villa’s fault. He started with Donyell Malen, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins. Each player picked up a point and Watkins doubled up as captain. Nobody from other clubs was around to bail them out either and 23 points is a pretty honking return. Alexander FC are outside the top 10 million players and outside the top 100,000 Villa fans.
Trust me, Alexander. With a team loaded with Villans myself, I feel your pain.
