Aston Villa left frustrated by 10 man Ipswich

0

Aston Villa was left frustrated when they welcomed Ipswich Town to Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Too many times this season, Villa have conceded poor goals and failed to take their chances, and Saturday was no different. Their hopes of finishing in a Champions League position seem to fade with every game.

Villa fans would have been hoping to see new signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio shine, but former West Bromwich Albion and new Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer stood out more than the rest.

The home side were given an early blow when Boubacar Kamara went off injured as he made way for Tyrone Mings who has just returned from an injury himself. Villa should have taken the lead shortly after the change when the substitute played a long ball for Ollie Watkins but his effort went wide of the goal when it looked easier to score.

In a frustrating opening forty-five minutes, the hosts were given a boost when former Villan Axel Tuanzebe was shown a red card just before the break after picking up his second yellow following a foul on Jacob Ramsey.

Moments later Villa thought they had opened the scoring when Ramsey made an incredible run before finding Watkins who in turn cut the ball back for Morgan Rogers but he was left frustrated when Palmer turned his effort over the bar.

Despite dominating the game, Unai Emery’s side found themselves behind against the run of play four minutes before the hour mark. Omari Hutchinson picked the ball up out wide before playing a low cross across the Villa box where Liam Delap was able to beat any Villa players to the ball, firing the ball past Emi Martinez in the Villa goal.

Substitute Ian Maatsen came close moments later from pulling Villa back into the game but his long-range effort was denied by Palmer once again.

Villa finally pulled themselves level after 69 minutes when Rashford’s free-kick smashed off the woodwork and into the path of Watkins who slotted him to make it 1-1.

Emery’s side ramped up the pressure as the visitors camped on the edge of their box but despite good efforts from Rogers and Asensio, Parlmer was determined to secure a share of the points for his side, leaving Villa very frustrated.
