The return of Artsakh people to their homeland is essential for peace  between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The united return of the people of Artsakh to their homeland through genuine negotiations between representatives of Azerbaijan and Artsakh is important for the establishment of lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was mentioned in the statement by the Committee for the Defense of Fundamental Rights of the People of Artsakh on the resolution of the European Parliament on October 24, 2024. 

In this regard, the Committee emphasized that it welcomes the "Resolution on the Situation in Azerbaijan, Violations of Human Rights and International Law and Relations with Armenia", which reveals the appalling human rights situation in Azerbaijan, disregard for international law and aggressive militaristic behavior towards the region and Armenia. "We particularly welcome the European Parliament's call for the full implementation of the decisions made by the International Court of Justice and for engaging in constructive dialogue with the representatives of the people of Artsakh. This will guarantee their safe, dignified and prompt return to their historical homeland, the release of all Armenian captives and political prisoners held in Azerbaijan, and the preservation of Armenian property and cultural monuments," the statement reads.

At the same time, the Committee expressed hope that the European Union will also work towards providing a platform for the initiation  of these important negotiations, ensuring that the process is under international control.  "The EU's role is important in promoting dialogue and a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis. It will open the way for the safe return of the people of Artsakh with international guarantees and the full realization of their fundamental rights," the statement concluded.
