Turkish fans attack Armenian footballers

ArmInfo. In France, Turkish fans armed with knives attacked Armenian football players. This was reported by the publication "Nouvelles d'Armenie".

It is noted that the incident occurred on September 29 during a  football match between the French-Turkish club "Turquoise" from  Valence and the French-Armenian club "Homenetmen" from  Bourg-les-Valence. 

The Armenian club won with a score of 2:0, to which the Turkish fans  reacted violently, attacking the Armenian players on the field.

The police intervened and the game was stopped. Several injured  football players were taken to the hospital. This serious incident  caused outrage in the Armenian community of France.

The Armenian ARF organizations, Kristapor Mikaelian and the C24  Committee of Drom-Ardeche issued a statement strongly condemning the  incident. "The racist verbal attacks, anti-Armenian statements,  physical attacks and injuries inflicted on the players of the  Homenetmen club go far beyond the framework of sport. They reflect  the anti-Armenian hatred skillfully supported and fueled by Turkey  among its citizens in France. This hatred was revealed today at our  doorstep, in the football stadium. Turkey, which still refuses to  recognize the genocide committed against the Armenians in 1915,  continues to deny the crimes committed by its ancestors. We must not  ignore this and treat the incident lightly. We consider these facts  extremely serious and ask the competent authorities, given the  seriousness of the matter, to take the sanctions necessary in such  circumstances. In addition to the attacked players and leaders of the  Armenian club, the Armenian community of France is first and foremost  targeted. We urge that appropriate and effective measures be taken to  ensure that such serious events never happen again.
