Stepanakert mayor under administrative arrest
ArmInfo. The mayor of Stepanakert, David Sargsyan, was changed from house arrest to administrative supervision, and this despite the fact that the Court of Appeal had previously removed all restrictions from him.
According to Sargsyan's lawyer Ruben Melikyan, the corresponding decision was made by the courts of general jurisdiction of Yerevan at the request of the Investigative Committee of the Republic.
Sargsyan is prohibited from visiting leisure and service facilities, including shops. He is also prohibited from communicating with his former employees and those involved in the same criminal case. The entire range of restrictions covers more than 1,700 people. But, he will be allowed to go out, but from 19:00 in the evening to 07:00 in the morning he must be at home.
Sargsyan was arrested for 20 days on May 27. He was charged under paragraph 3 of part 3 of Article 255 and part 2 of Article 457 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia in the case of theft of especially large property and forgery of documents (4 cars).
Then, at the court hearing held on June 13, Judge Masis Melkonyan fully granted the investigator's request and applied a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for a period of two months against the mayor of Stepanakert. The Court of Appeal in another decision declared the mayor's 20-day detention illegal. On July 16, the Court of Appeal declared the mayor's 20-day detention illegal in one decision, and in another it released him from house arrest. The defense considers the case against the mayor of Stepanakert to be politicized.
