Two labor and social affairs ministry officials detained in Armenia for taking bribes
YEREVAN, December 27. /ARKA/. Two high-ranking officials at Armenia’s labor and social affairs ministry have been detained in suspicion of bribery, the press office of the national security service reported on Tuesday.
The suspects are the head of the ministry’s medical and social examination agency and the head of the repeated examination agency.
According to the preliminary information, there was a scheme in the ministry – officials were receiving bribes and passed them on to higher-ranking officials.
In particular, 20,000 to 40,000 drams have been taken for assigning a disability degree to a citizen.
The money was distributed among members of the commission and a part of it has periodically been given to the head of the agency.
AMD 2,547,000 and $600 have been found at his home, the bulk of the money in envelopes. The money was received on the day of the search.
It has become known that the heads of at least nine provincial and two Yerevan social and medical commissions and the head of the repeated examination have been involved in this criminal scheme.
The matter is being investigated now. The investigators are doing whatever is necessary to find also other persons involved in this corruptive scheme. --0----
