YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKА/. Armenia’s State Food Safety Agency will tighten grip on food markets ahead of New Year holidays and after them, Vache Danielyan, head of the agency, said Wednesday at a news conference.

In particular, the agency will be raiding food markets every day over a period between December 23, 2016 and January 8, 2017 to see shelf life of products and their storage conditions.

Unfit products or those kept in improper conditions will be removed from sale and destroyed.
Danielyan said round-the-clock hot line will be opened as well.

In his words, the agency carried out more than 1,000 raids in 2016.

“Estimating risks in food safety area, the agency has undertaken 120 raids over the last three months in companies producing spirits and soft drinks as well as catering facilities,” he said.

The agency has found out some irregularities and provided recommendations to the economic entities violating norms.

Danielyan said that the regulator gave particular time for the wrongdoers for putting things right.

If nothing was done in the given period of time, the agency imposed administrative punishment on them.

”Very often producers want to correct things, but they don’t know how to do it,” he said. “That is why the government is strengthening the mechanism of recommendations.” --0---
