Nothing overshadowed Armenian - Iranian relations over last 25 years
YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKA/. Over the last 25 years nothing has marred the relations between Armenia and Iran, Armenian leader Serzh Sargsyan said today as he received the visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
"Armenian-Iranian friendship goes back to ancient times and, based on this solid foundation, in 1992, we established bilateral relations. Today - 25 years later- I am very glad that I can say - during this period, there was nothing that could overshadow our relations ", - stressed the president of Armenia.
Sargsyan’s press service said the Armenian president greeted Rouhani in Armenia noting that his first official visit to Armenia as president of Iran will give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation. Sargsyan also thanked the Iranian leadership for his attention to bilateral relations.
"We've always been honest and direct in our relations and are ready to continue in the same spirit", - he said.
The Armenian leader conveyed also the words of profound respect for the spiritual leader of Iran Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Hassan Rouhani, in turn, noted that Iran views Armenia as a friendly country and is aimed at further strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
"We - both countries - belong to the same culture and civilization. Relations between our two peoples have always been warm and friendly," - he said. -0-
