UN seeks protection for ancient Nimrud site wrecked by IS

NIMRUD, Iraq (AP) — The U.N. says that Islamic State extremists have destroyed the ancient site of Nimrud almost beyond recognition, and left its ruins vulnerable to thieves and further damage.
