Nalbandian: "Baku won’t join OSCE Co-Chairs’ statement”

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian said today that his meeting with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan “was important by itself”.

“We discussed the three Co-Chairs’ statement of December 8. It is important to understand that this statement should be accepted as a base, since it expresses the Co-Chairs’ position regarding the settlement of the issue,” Edward Nalbandian told the press in Hamburg.

In his answer to Mediamax’s question if it is possible that Armenia and Azerbaijan join the statement Armenian FM said:

“We can join. Will Azerbaijan join? Of course not. So we will get 3+1. That is the issue. Azerbaijan’s position still contradicts the position of international community and the three Co-Chair states,” Minister Nalbandian said.

On the other hand, Edward Nalbandian stressed that such attitude from Azerbaijan didn’t mean that “progress in the negotiation process is impossible”.

“We need to get ready and continue the negotiation process, as there is no alternative to it. Armenia will keep making efforts jointly with the Co-Chair states to achieve an exclusively peaceful settlement of the NK issue,” Edward Nalbandian stated.

Armenian Foreign Minister didn’t rule out the possibility of a meeting between Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that it would require detailed preparations.
