Households’ final consumption expenses to grow 0.8% in Armenia in 2016 – central bank

YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia forecasts a 0.8% growth in households’ expenses on final consumption in 2016 and a 3.5-percent contraction of gross private investments.

In its Inflation Report, included in the monetary policy for the 4th Q 2016 and the report of performance of the policy in the 3rd Q 2016, the regulator says that households’ income shrank in 2016 as the inflow of money transfers from Russia dwindled.

“Despite that, households’ consumption expenses are expected to be 0.8% more than a year earlier, and this is a little less than the projected indicator, which is due to a smaller-than-expected trade turnover in the third quarter of this year,” the central bank says in its report.

The central bank’s analysts say that a weak investment environment that remains in the country’s non-export segment will affect private investment, while in the economy’s export segment investment activity is believed to rally relatively thanks to competitiveness.

Amid such developments, aggregate private investments are expected to shrink 3.5% in 2016 because of a significant decline of business activity in construction.

Households’ consumption expenses grew 2 percent in the third quarter 2016, compared with the same period a year before.

Private investments reduced 1% in Armenia in the 3rd Q 2016, compared with the 3rd Q 2015, amid a weak investment environment in the country. --0---
