Development concept to be formed for small schools
Minister made this statement at the meeting of headmasters of general education schools in Yerevan.
“We should understand what has to be done here. We don’t have a solution for this issue yet. A large part of our schools have less than 300 students, and we can’t blame these children for living in areas at 3000m height. We cannot suggest a mechanical solution, that is to close the school and take everyone to another on a bus,” Minister said.
He attached importance to developing new methods and stressed the according experience of Canada and Russia.
Touching upon increasing management efficiency, Levon Mkrtchyan brought the example of recent unification of several schools in Moscow.
“As a result of unification of 4000 schools, 700 schools were founded, but no school was closed, no teacher lost their job, simply the managemed system was centralized and a network school model was created. We should discuss and find solutions for our schools as well,” Minister noted.
Levon Mkrtchyan also stressed the importance of teaching foreign languages as a part of education in Armenian schools.
He attached importance to advance of natural sciences, as well as expansion of humanitarian sciences and Armenian studies.
