Pair who killed jogger for R4 jailed
Two Pietermaritzburg men have received 20 year prison sentencess for killing a jogger for R4 and his takkies.
|||Durban - Two men who killed a jogger for a mere R4 and his takkies were handed a 20-year jail term in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday.
National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that Linda Mkhize and Sifiso Ntombela were convicted of murder and robbery.
Ramkisson-Kara said the court heard that the two men hatched a plan to rob people along a path between two residential areas in Pietermaritzburg’s Copesville area.
In June last year they fatally stabbed Jordache Michael Thomas in the neck, and stole R4,00 and the pair of takkies he was wearing, before fleeing the scene and selling the shoes for R60.00.
The two men were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for murder and 10 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, with the sentences to run concurrently, meaning that they will serve an effective 20 years.
