Yerevan thermal power plant may be sold to Russia’s Gazprom - newspaper

YEREVAN, August 30. /ARKA/. The Armenian government-owned Yerevan Thermal Power Plant owes $52.3 million to Russia’s Gazprom, Zhoghovurd reports referring to Russia’s Life.

It means this is Armenia’s debt.

Since autumn 2013, Armenia’s government has provided properties worth millions of dollars to Gazprom as alleged payment of a $300-million debt.

For the same reason, the government handed over its 20% of ArmRosgazprom (currently Gazprom-Armenia) shares to the Russian side.

The word of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant’s debt to Gazprom is remarkable for the circumstance that the motivation of the previous deals has been the same.

It will become clear later whether the government is preparing the ground for selling the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant.

Asked by the newspaper’s correspondent for comments, Shushan Sardaryan, press secretary of Gazprom-Armenia, said that this is the matter relating to compliance with contractual obligations.

“The Yerevan Thermal Power Plant has performed the major part of its contractual obligations, and, as I know, negotiations are being held now over performance of the remaining part,” she is quoted by the newspaper.

The authors of the publication say in any case this situation shows economic developments not favorable to our country. --0----
