About half million pensioners in Armenia
YEREVAN, August 26. /ARKA/. As many as 465,550 pensioners are registered in Armenia’s labor and social affairs ministry’s social security agency, Armen Abrahamyan, the head of the agency, told journalists on Friday.
In his words, 307,449 people receive old age pension, 129,204 disability pension and 10,661survivor benefit. Some 550,000 in the country have jobs.
Specialists say it is necessary to have 3:1 ratio of employed people to unemployed. Otherwise, social payments will be a heavy burden for the country. The ratio in Armenia is 1.3:1.
“The agency has paid more than 151 billion 105 million over the first half of this year, of which more than AMD 110 billion 776 million came as retirement benefits,” Abrahamyan said.
“There is hotline 114 in the agency. Every citizen can call and ask a question. But I recommend all those who faced problems to send a written request.”
The head of the agency also said that AMD 58,500,000 has been paid wrongfully over the first six months of this year, of which AMD 10,300,000 have been returned to the government budget.
In his words, although very often mistakes happen because of faults of the system, every case of irregularities is carefully considered and wrongdoers are punished.
Disciplinary penalties have been applied to 18 people over the mentioned period. --0---
