Man killed after car plunges down embankment

A man was killed when the car he was driving plunged over an embankment north of Durban, paramedics said.

Durban - A man was killed when the car he was driving plunged over an embankment north of Durban on Tuesday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the accident happened shortly after 5pm in La Mercy along Ebeling Lane.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle veered off the roadway and plunged over an embankment, its twisted frame coming to rest on its side,” said Botha.

He said that firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free the man, but despite their best efforts the man succumbed to his extensive injuries.

Why the car veered off the road is not known and the accident is being investigated.
