Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs are set for an early visit to the Mother City when they take on newly-formed Cape Town City in the quarter-finals of the MTN8 competition at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night (8pm).

And, for the grand occasion, the popular Soweto club will parade its brand new captain for the season, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Khune takes over the captain’s armband from midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala. The 29-year-old Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and skipper recently returned from the Rio Olympics, where he was used as an over-age player for the South Africa Under-23 squad’s participation in the football event at the Games.

The shot-stopper is looking forward to his leadership role at Amakhosi: “I am ready to lead. I have led before and I know what the armband comes with. It comes with a lot of pressure. But I enjoy playing under pressure, it brings the best out in me.”

After a disappointing campaign last season, where they played second fiddle to runaway champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs have freshened up their squad with the signing of players like Lewis Macha (from Ferroviario de Maputo in Mozambique), Sibusiso Khumalo and Enocent Mkhabela (both from SuperSport United), Mitchell Katsvairoe and Edmore Chirambadare (both from Chicken Inn in Zimbabwe), Keagan Buchanan (from Bloemfontein Celtic) and the prize capture of Ramahlwe Mphahlele (from Mamelodi Sundowns).
