Valery Permyakov’s attorney doesn’t know where his client will serve sentence
YEREVAN, August 23. /ARKA/. Eduard Aghajanyan, a lawyer of Russian serviceman Valey Permyakov, who was sentenced today to life in prison, doesn’t know where his client will serve his sentence.
In his words, the penitentiary facilities must have been mentioned in the verdict, but the judge ignored this aspect.
“It seems this problem will be regulated by the Department for Execution of Sentences,” Aghajanyan is quoted by Novosti-Armenia.
He also added that he could not say is it possible that Permyakov serve his sentence outside Armenia.
Earlier, the lawyer asked the court to withdraw the count of illegal crossing of the board from the indictment, but the court declined the request.
Aghajanyan said that the issue of appeal of court judgment will be decided after reception of the written version. He said plenty depends also on Permyakov’s stance.
The court of Armenia’s Shirak province, has found Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at Russia’s military base in Armenia, guilty on all counts, Novosti-Armenia reported on Tuesday.
The court sentenced Permyakov to life in prison for a multiple homicide. Permyakov was also sentenced to a ten-year imprisonment for illegal penetration into premises using guns and to two years in jail for illegal crossing of state border.
The family - a middle-aged couple, their daughter, son, daughter-in-law and 2-year-old granddaughter was found shot dead in their Gyumri home in 2015 January morning. The Avetisyan family’s seventh member, a 6-month-old baby boy, died of his stab wounds a week later.
Valery Permyakov was arrested when trying to cross the Armenian border and later charged with the
murder of two or more persons under the Armenian Criminal Code. On August 12, 2015 Permyakov was
found guilty of desertion, theft of weapons and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The murder case was
singled out for considering it in a separate procedure and passed to the Armenian authorities.
On October 13, Permyakov was found sane. According to experts, he was not in the heat of passion while
committing the crime. He also could recognize the consequences of his actions.
On October 16, Permyakov was additionally charged with armed assault, home-invasion robbery and
attempted border crossing. He pleaded guilty to killing seven members of the family. --0---
