Prime minister visits Syunik province
YEREVAN, August 17, /ARKA/. As part of a working visit to the southern province of Syunik Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan visited “Meghri” customs checkpoint on the border with Iran, the government press office reported today.
After the lifting of visa regime with Iran, transportation of passengers and goods across the border significantly increased. In this regard, Abrahamyan said the time needed for passengers’ transportation and shipping of goods through the customs check point should be minimized as much as possible.
Then the premiere was taken to a place in Meghri region where free economic zone is to be established to boost trade with Iran and deepen bilateral economic ties.
According to economy minister Artsvik Minasyan, creation of free economic zone will provide new opportunities for Armenia, especially, the region of Meghri as new jobs will be created.
The PM also visited Agarak and Meghri communities and spoke to local residents and heard their concerns. Hovik Abrahamyan had a consultation with the community heads of Meghri region saying the government is going to implement large infrastructural projects in this region which will definitely contribute to the economic development of the communities, as well as the region and bring new investments.
“Creation of new jobs in our country is one of the focal issues of the government”, Abrahamyan is quoted as saying.-0-
