Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma has declared a Special Official Funeral for Reverend Arnold Makhenkesi Stofile, the former sports minister and current Ambassador to Germany, who died earlier this week aged 71.

In the statement, the Presidency said Stofile, an anti-apartheid activist, died at his home in Alice in the Eastern Cape on Monday.

According to Bongani Ngqulunga, presidency spokesperson, Zuma had instructed that the national flag fly at half-mast at every station in the country for a week, until Stofile’s funeral on Thursday August 25.

According to the statement, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on State Funerals, with the Eastern Cape provincial government, will lead the planning and execution of the Special Official Funeral.
