The Ambassador awarded Certificates of Recognition to scholars.  7 Armenian students will study this year with scholarships provided by United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth office.

“Like every year, this year the competition for scholarships was very tense. We have chosen the best students who will contribute to the development of Armenia after receiving the quality education”, said Judith Farnworth in her welcoming speech.

7 students selected from 129 applicants are:
Ani Asatryan (University of Sussex), Astghik Gevorgyan( University of St. Andrews), Mikayel Samvelyan (University of Oxford), Taron Harutyunyan ( University of Glasgow), Armine Petrosyan (University College London), Karine Mkrtchyan ( University of Edinburg) and Seda Grigoryan ( University of West London).

Part of Mikayel Samvelyan’s scholarship will be covered by Luys foundation. He will be studying Computor Science for a year.

“IT sector is growing rapidly and our educational institutions are not able to provide appropriate education to international standards. Chevening scholarship will help me acquire knowledge in Oxford that I will apply later in my country”, said Mikayel Samvelyan.

Chevening has had 120 scholars so far from Armenia. The first scholarship was provided in 1995-1996. This year the scholarship supported 1800 individuals from all over the world.
