South Africa will get new colour coded number plates from next year, which will have to be renewed every five years.

Pretoria - South Africa will get new number plates from next year, which will have to be renewed every five years.

The number plates will have SABS certification below the licence mark of the province, four dimensional bar code with QR code and abbreviated name of the manufacturer of the blank number plate among other features.

In the new dispensation, black plates will be for public transport vehicles, blue for general vehicles and personalised number plates, red for government vehicles, and green for diplomatic vehicles.
