China ready to invest in Armenia’s agriculture
YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. Business people from the Chinese province of Heilongjiang are willing to invest in Armenia’s agricultural sector, Guan Haibin, a senior Chinese official in charge of the province’s international trade, told a news conference in Yerevan today.
During a three-day visit to Armenia the Chinese delegation had meetings with representatives of Armenian ministries and departments, entrepreneurs, as well as visited various food-processing companies and educational institutions. The visit was part of an earlier signed agreement on development of bilateral relations.
"We were told about Armenia’s agricultural sector and visited several food-processing companies, and we are very impressed. We are considering the possibility of establishing a joint food-processing company to exports the products", said Haibin.
Guan Haibin also said Chinese business people plan to import Armenian alcoholic drinks to Heilongjiang. He also noted that the authorities of Heilongjiang province will do everything necessary to facilitate licensing procedures for imports of Armenian alcoholic beverages.
"More than 20 countries sell their alcoholic beverages in the province of Heilongjiang, and I think that the Armenian products will find their place as well ", said Haibin.
Heilongjiang Province is one of the largest provinces in China, which is home to 38 million people.
According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service, Armenia's trade turnover with China in 2015 dropped by 18% from the previous year to $481.3 million. Armenia exports to China stood at $ 165.3 million, a 3.3% decline, while imports from China were worth $315.9 million, a 24.2% decline. --0-
