Armed Man Surrenders after Barricading Himself in Germany's Saarbrücken

Police entered the restaurant where an armed man had barricaded himself in Saarbrücken, Germany, national media report.

The man, a German national of Macedonian origin aged 43, did not resist after being found in the basement of the restaurant. 

Police sealed off the area and are carried out a special operation, according to Saarland's public radio quoted by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The man's motives are not immediately clear, but a terror attack is so far being ruled out. Authorities report him as mentally unstable. 

Sunday's incident comes after a number of attacks in Germany last month, the vast majority of them linked to migrants.
