Day one: Arrival in Rio

We caught the Olympic energy even earlier, in Lisbon, from which many athletes and delegations were heading to the city of the XXXI Olympiad.

Hospitable and smiling volunteers were in every corner of the airport, helping everyone and passing on the Olympic spirit.

As we were ready to take our luggage and leave the airport, a volunteer exclaimed, “Serj Tankian! SOAD!” He confessed that he knows about Armenia thanks to the famous singer and his band.

We tried to register our first impressions in the car, but describing such a big and multifaceted city just by the first minutes of introduction wouldn’t do.

We were accompanied by Secretary General of the Armenian National Olympic Committee Hrachya Rostomyan. During these 8 days that he’s been in Rio, he noticed how much effort Brazilians put into sports. We saw their love for sport ourselves, and took pictures of elders running and training at Maracanã.

The flag-raising ceremony for the Armenia team took place at the Olympic Village. “Our athletes are in competitive mood, and waiting for their turn to perform,” Rostomyan said.

We’ve been in Rio for only a few hours, and we will tell you in more detail about the homeland of carnivals and football during the next 21 days.
