Mom, daughter killed by truck

A mother, 45, and her daughter, 15, died after allegedly being run over by a truck while trying to cross Gopallal Hurbans Road in oThongathi.

Durban - A mother, 45, and her daughter, 15, died after allegedly being run over by a truck in Gopallal Hurbans Road in oThongathi on Thursday.

Paul Herbst, of IPSS Medical Rescue, said it was believed the victims were trying to cross the road when they were hit by a tip truck.

They died on impact and paramedics declared them dead at the scene, he said.

The incident happened in front of a municipal building, and near the busy taxi and bus rank and the train station.

It brought the central business district to a standstill.

Police cordoned off the scene so that they could investigate.

The deceased have yet to be identified.

Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit South Africa paramedics, said the victims were knocked down and dragged several metres by the 10-ton tip truck.
