World's Smallest Whale Species Risks Extinction in the Baltic

The harbor porpoise is one of the smallest marine mammals and the only cetacean species found in the Baltic Sea. Today, the species is critically endangered. The total porpoise population in the Baltic Sea is estimated to comprise around 500 individuals and is shrinking. In the early 1990s, the Baltic's whale population was about twice as large.
