Missing woman found buried on farm
The body of 38-year-old Yandiswa Nogonyothi, who went missing on her way to work, was uncovered, buried on a Paarl farm.
|||Cape Town - Wednesday will probably be remembered as the most painful day for the Nogonyothi family from Mbekweni, near Paarl.
After searching since Monday, the family found Yandiswa Nogonyothi’s body buried in a shallow grave on a farm far from her home.
Nogonyothi, 38, had left her home for work on Monday morning, but when she didn’t arrive, her brother, Loyiso, filed a report with police.
He began to panic when the police investigating Nogonyothi’s disappearance found her bloodied work uniform later that day in a Paarl cemetery.
Her body was dug up on Wednesday. It was believed she had been beaten to death.
“We are very sad and angry, and we would like to know what has happened to her. My sister was a very nice, quiet person who liked being on her own. She never loved to fight or ague with anyone,” said her brother.
Nogonyothi was the breadwinner in the family. “I don’t know what will happen now because I don’t have a permanent job. I work temporary jobs now and then, and she has two children.”
When the Cape Argus arrived in Paarl on Wednesday, more than 30 residents from Mbekweni were helping the family search for her. During that search, another bloodied item of clothing was discovered on a farm adjacent to the cemetery. Her body was found there.
Nogonyothi worked as a security guard for Franschhoek Farm Guard Services.
The owner of the company, Jonathan Daniels, said the company was in mourning. “We are all sad about what has happened. We have been looking since Monday, hoping we were going to find her alive.”
Community leader Sibongile Gwatyu said they demanded the police keep people in the area safe.
Mathemba Tshangela, who lives in OR Tambo, said residents would call for a meeting with the police to address safety concerns.
Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed they were investigating a case of murder.
