Russian X5 retail group to arrange direct imports of food from Armenia
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Russian food retailer X5 Retail Group plans to arrange direct supplies of food products from Armenia and other countries, X5 Chief Executive Officer Igor Shekhterman said at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
According to Tass, Shekhterman said that the retailer has decided to refuse services of intermediaries in the import of food products.
"Today we import food products from more than 25 countries, and the bulk comes through our partners. Our task is to establish direct imports, and we are already beginning to do it,' he said.
Shekhterman said that X5 is buying already foods directly from Chinese and Serbian producers. "Now we are discussing direct supplies from Latin America, the Middle East, Armenia and Uzbekistan," told Shekhterman.
He stressed that "direct purchases will reduce costs and production costs" enabling X5 to lower prices. -0-
