One dead, fourt hurt in Durban accident

A man was killed and four people were injured in a head-on collision near the intersection of the M4 Highway and Sandile Thusi Road.

Durban – A man was killed and four people were injured in a head-on collision in Durban on Wednesday.

Netcare 911 spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe said the collision near the intersection of the M4 Highway and Sandile Thusi Road (formerly Argyle Road) happened at about midday between a Renault Clio and a Hyundai H1 minibus.

Mathe said that the occupants of the Hyundai had sustained moderate injuries, but that the driver and front seat passenger of the Renault were trapped in their vehicle.

“Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to extricate the two out of the wreckage. Unfortunately, the front seat passenger succumbed to his injuries on scene. Paramedics worked tirelessly to resuscitate the man but he was declared dead on scene,” she said.

The back seat passenger of the Renault Clio was thrown from the car and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
