Armenia’s diamond exports shrink 40.3% in 2015

YEREVAN, April 21./ARKA/. Armenia’s diamond exports shrank 40.3% in 2015 from 160,100 carats to 95,500 carats, the Armenian customs service reports.  

The customs cost of the exported diamonds was $67.4 million in 2015 against $117.8 million in 2014.
 
According to the report, 63.2% of Armenia’s diamond exports go to Belgium, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

Armenia’s diamond exports to Russia and Belgium shrank in 2015 while exports to the United Arab Emirates grew. 

Armenia sent 14,600 carats worth $5.6 million to Russia in 2015 against 68,900 carats worth $35.4 million in 2014 and 20,000 carats worth $31.1 million against 51,500 carats worth $42.6 million respectively to Belgium. 

Exports to the United Arab Emirates grew from 9,900 carats ($2.7 million) to 25,800 carats ($2.6 million).

The National Statistical Service says Armenia’s diamond output grew 36.2% to 81,300 carats in 2015. 

Armenia exported 43,600 carats of precious and semiprecious stones of $1.3 million total cost in 2015 against 90,500 carats ($2.2 million) in 2014.
 
Armenia cut jewelry exports 7.4 times from 6 tons ($18.7 million) in 2014 to 823,800 kilograms ($23.5 million) in 2015, while jewelry industry's output grew 61% to AMD 18 086.6 million. 

According to official statistical reports, Armenia's exports totaled $1 486.9 million in 2015 showing a 3.9% decline, compared with the previous year. --0---
