Tegan And Sara's New Single 'Boyfriend' Is Full-On Queer Power Pop

0

Our favorite Canadian lesbian twins are back with new music and -- joy of joys! -- it's unapologetically queer.

Tegan and Sara Quin (better, and professionally, known by just their first names) released their latest single, "Boyfriend," yesterday and Sara chatted with DJ Matt Wilkinson to provide fans with a little perspective about the track:

"It's a pretty straightforward pop song about a relationship I was getting into with a girl who had never dated a girl before. She had a boyfriend -- guy -- that she was sort of seeing and we used to joke around that she was treating me like her boyfriend and I was trying to get her to sort of... you know... tie it down. I wanted her to make it official with me. I think that's pretty relatable. Obviously, being gay, there's sort of a bit of a gender twist in the song and I get that that sometimes doesn't seem immediately relatable to everybody, whether they're straight or whatever. But this idea, you know, that we've all been in that situation where we really like someone and we want to make it official and they're not ready, that's what the song is about."

"Boyfriend" is the first single from the duo's forthcoming album, "I Love You To Death," which will be out on June 3 and is currently available for preorder now on iTunes. You can also check out another new song, "U-Turn," here.
