Brockie treble helps SuperSport stun Cosmos

Johannesburg - SuperSport United striker Jeremie Brockie netted a hat-trick to help Matsatsantsa to a 4-2 Premiership victory over Jomo Cosmos at the Olen Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result see’s Supersport United climb above Orlando Pirates on the league standing to eighth spot.

Defeat for Sono’s side, meanwhile, heaped pressure on them in 14th spot, one point off the relegation zone.

Stuart Baxter’s side started the game on the front foot and created some good early chances but struggled to trouble Ezenkosi goalkeeper, Sherwin Naicker.

The deadlock was broken as early as the 17th minute as Brockie opened the scoring after a defensive error from Naicker.

The Kiwi’s seventh goal of the season seemingly put him in the mood for more. Matsatsantsa continued to keep the pressure on and a minute later, Kingston Nkhatha forced, Naicker into a smart save.

Baxter’s men were quick out of the blocks in the second half. Dove Wome doubled their lead ten minutes in with a cool finish.

Just two minutes later and winger, Thuso Phala found Brockie in space and he made no mistake to hand the Pretoria side a 3-0 lead.

With Jomo Sono’s side now forced to chase the game, Brockie was given too much time on the ball again and he smashed the ball pass Naicker to complete his hat-trick in the 69th minute.

SuperSport were now sailing and took their foot off the gas. It allowed Cosmos more possession as Denver Mukamba then finished well to pull a goal back.

Six minutes from time Mician Mhone scored a second for Cosmos, although it was too little too late.
