Port Moody cancels New Year’s Penguin Plunge because of leaking boat fuel

Port Moody’s annual Penguin Plunge has been cancelled this year because of concerns about spilled boat fuel where the New Year’s Day swim takes place. According to a post to the city’s website, a boat that ran aground may have spilled fuel near Rocky Point Park, where brave swimmers ceremoniously take a dip into the frigid waters of the Burrard Inlet on Jan. 1 each year.
