House set alight after lover’s quarrel

Rustenburg - A 24-year-old man was arrested for burning a house and damaging another in Madibogo, North West police said on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko said the man was arrested on Wednesday for malicious damage to property and arson.

The man allegedly threw stones at a house and burned another.

According to the information received, the suspect had an argument with his girlfriend on Monday.

The suspect then went to the girlfriend’s house and demanded to see her.

It is alleged that the suspect demanded the money that the girlfriend withdrew from his account.

When the girlfriend refused to let him inside the house, he allegedly started throwing stones and bricks at the windows.

“It is alleged that on the same night [Monday], at around 22.30 the same suspect went to another house at Madibogopan village and broke the window panes and thereafter set it alight,” Moleko said.

He allegedly accused the owner of the house of having an affair with his girlfriend.

“The neighbours helped in extinguishing the fire but the house was seriously damaged. The suspect is expected to appear in Atamelang Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” Moleko said.
