Joburg fires fresh produce market CEO
Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market chief executive Simangele Sekgobela has been fired following a disciplinary hearing.
|||Johannesburg – Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market chief executive Simangele Sekgobela has been fired following a disciplinary hearing, the City of Joburg’s fresh produce entity said on Tuesday.
“The board resolved to affirm the award, which was for summary dismissal. Therefore, Ms Sekgobela’s services with the Joburg Market, which date back to 01 May 2013, have been terminated,” the market’s board chairwoman Nompumelelo Mpofu said.
Sekgobela was suspended earlier this year for alleged poor performance, poor working relations with staff and questionable supply chain management practices.
She was previously head of department at the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development before she joined the fresh produce market in 2013.
Mpofu said the process of recruiting a new CEO in the New Year would get under way, and that Josiah Mazibuko would continue
his role as acting CEO until a replacement was found.
The Joburg market is the largest in Africa. The entity, which has received clean audits for the past four financial years, trades in fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and groceries.
