CEC: Signature collection in support of nomination of presidential candidates complies with due process
The collection of signatures in support of the nomination of candidates for the 2025 presidential election in Belarus has been carried out in compliance with the law, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a CEC meeting in Minsk on 23 December, BelTA learned. "The presidential election campaign in Belarus is running in accordance with the timeframes established by the law. We have completed the stage of nomination of presidential candidates. According to the territorial commissions, the collection of signatures has been carried out in compliance with the law. The CEC did not receive any complaints. Voters applied to the CEC Information Center to ask about the location of signature collection places, about documents confirming the authority of members of initiative groups, about the possibility to sign if producing another document apart from a passport or identification card," Igor Karpenko noted. The CEC held seminars and meetings with territorial commissions to discuss topical issues of the election campaign and to explain the procedure to authenticate signatures in signature lists, the CEC head said. "The CEC received the protocols of territorial commissions which establish the number of voters who signed in support of the nomination of presidential candidates," he added. The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
