Opposition factions in the Armenian Parliament lashed out at Prime Minister Pashinyan's ruling Civil Contract party today for skipping a vote on an opposition statement calling on the international community to pressure Azerbaijan, host of the UN COP 29 climate summit, to release Armenian prisoners./pp
Opposition MPs accused the authorities of inaction when it comes to the fate of dozens of Armenian captives held hostage by Baku./pp
Parliamentary Vice Speaker Ruben Rubinyan responded by accusing the opposition of ‘absolute indifference to the future of the captives’ and of having ‘exhausted all topics trying to monetise this issue’./pp
In response, Artsvik Minasyan, an opposition member of the Hayastan (Armenia) faction, called Rubinyan's statements a ‘political disgrace.’/pp
Minasyan argued that by opposing the statement, the Civil Contract was opposing the common will and interests of the people of Armenia./pp
