The selection of Armenia as the host country for the UN COP17 Convention on Biodiversity confirms the growing trust of the international community in Armenia as an important player in global environmental processes, according to a statement from the Armenian Foreign Ministry./pp

Armenia was selected as the host country for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biodiversity (COP17) in 2026 during the 16th conference held in Colombia./pp “Armenia has now been entrusted with the important task of coordinating and promoting international efforts within the framework of the Convention on Biodiversity to help address the modern environmental challenges facing humanity,” the statement said./pp

The UN Convention on Biodiversity is one of three global environmental conventions that guide the international community's efforts in ecological sustainability, conservation of biological diversity, restoration, and sustainable use of natural resources./pp

The Conferences of the Parties to the Convention are among the largest environmental events. They are organized every two years, during which member states work to develop appropriate mechanisms for implementing the Convention and adopt new commitments.
