Flibusta creator reports tumor and warns of site closure

The owner of the online library Flibusta blocked in Russia, hiding behind the pseudonym Stiver, warned on September 24 about the end of the online library due to the discovery of a tumor of "obscene size".

The platform had been offering free book downloads since 2009.

"I'm in the hospital with an obscene-sized glioblastoma (an aggressive malignant tumor of the CNS. - Ed.). Unfortunately, "Flibusta" on this, apparently, ended, as well as myself," - wrote the author of the project on the website of the library, specifying that the servers for the operation of the library paid for a few more weeks.

The domain name of the online library Flibusta.net was blocked by decision of the Moscow City Court in connection with copyright infringement in the summer of 2016. The lawsuit was filed by the publishing house "Eksmo", which accused Flibusta.net of copyright infringement for four works by Ray Bradbury: "Dandelion Wine", "451 degrees Fahrenheit", "The Martian Chronicles" and "The Golden Apples of the Sun". The administration of Flibusta.net did not respond to the order of the Moscow City Court, as a result, the full address of the site was blacklisted by Roskomnadzor.

The online library circumvented the blocking attempts by creating numerous "mirrors" - copies of the site with similar content. However, the Moscow City Court declared the online library blocked for life.
