YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) has successfully completed its planned preventive maintenance ahead of schedule and is now operating normally, the plant's press service reported on Friday./pp

On August 11, at 12:17 PM, the fourth turbogenerator of the ANPP's second power unit was reconnected to the national power grid, followed by the third turbogenerator at 3:20 PM. The PPM-2024 schedule had initially planned for the unit to be operational by August 18, but the efficient work of the staff allowed the process to be completed about a week earlier./pp

Currently, the ANPP is functioning smoothly, adhering to all safety and reliability standards./pp

The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, located near the town of Metsamor, approximately 30 kilometers west of Yerevan, is the only nuclear power facility in the South Caucasus region. It plays a crucial role in the country’s energy production, supplying up to 40% of Armenia's electricity. The plant's operational life has been extended until 2026, and efforts are underway to further extend its life by an additional 10 years./pp

Plans are also in place to construct a new nuclear power plant within the next 8-10 years. Various options are being considered, with input from partners in Russia, the United States, and South Korea. The Armenian government is currently reviewing a preliminary feasibility study for a new 1200 MW block developed by the Russian state corporation Rosatom./pp

Previously, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom, stated that the corporation could offer Armenia nuclear reactors with capacities ranging from 50 to 1000 MW. He noted that reactors could be assembled from 50 MW blocks to meet the desired capacity./pp br/p
