Alleged cop killer appears in court

A man accused of the hijacking and murder of a North West policeman appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate’s Court.

Brits - A man accused of the hijacking and murder of a North West policeman appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The case against Samuel Marothodi Maphanga, 23, was postponed to December 9, for legal aid and possible bail application.

He had been brought to court in leg irons. The accused was dressed in a pink T-shirt and a pair of brown trousers.

Warrant Officer Sipho Sithole, was shot and wounded while he was off duty on November 14, in Letlhabile near Brits. His car was hijacked. Sithole, who was attached to the Assen police station, died two days later in hospital.

The slain policeman’s car was found abounded near Soshanguve north of Pretoria.
