More than 40,000 out of power Thursday evening after strong winds hit Metro Vancouver

More than 40,000 Metro Vancouver customers were without power on Thursday evening after powerful winds wrecked havoc across the region’s power lines. According to Environment Canada, a low pressure system crossing the province’s south coast Thursday resulted in “very strong southeasterly winds” in and around the Straight of Georgia.
